Martinac Shipbuilding, Tacoma WA

Most recent update: December 11, 2014.

J. M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corp. is a family-owned business that has been building ships at the same location at the foot of East 15th Street, on the east side of the Thea Foss Waterway, since 1924.  It built wooden yard tugs and minesweepers in WWII but switched from wood to steel in 1964.  Martinac closed in 2014 and the property was sold for development.  See the shipyard from the air on Google here.
