43 Yacht Builders

The United States has had a healthy yacht building industry since the mid-19th Century.  During World War I, many large yachts were acquired by the Navy for service as coastal patrol vessels and the major yacht builders all switched their capacity to the construction of sub chasers.  In World War II, the same thing happened but the yacht yards also built a wide range of other small vessels, including minesweepers, tugs and yard craft.  The yacht building business today is much more of a manufacturing industry and I only attempt to track the activity in the big yards, those that build boats that are at least 100 feet long.
