BAY SHIPBUILDING Sturgeon Bay WI |
||||||||
Most recent update: January 17, 2022.
|
||||||||
Bay
Shipbuilding was created in 1967, when Manitowoc Corporation closed its
yard in Manitowoc and acquired two shipyards in Sturgeon Bay - Sturgeon
Bay Shipbuilding & Dry Dock, and Christy Corp. The first of these,
Sturgeon Bay SB, had started life as Rieboldt, Wolter & Co.,
subsequently becoming Universal Shipbuilding Co. and Sturgeon Bay Dry
Dock Co. The other, Christy Corp., had formerly been Leathem D. Smith
Towing & Wrecking Co., Leathem D. Smith Dock Co. and Leathem D. Smith
Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. In 2008, Manitowoc sold its Marine Group,
comprising Bay Shipbuilding, Marinette Marine and Cleveland Ship Repair,
to Fincantieri and it is now called Fincantieri Marine Group, with this
shipyard now being called Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding.
