Charleston Shipbuilding, Charleston SC

Most recent update: May 26, 2015.

This yard started out in 1869 as Samuel J. Pregnall & Bros., known as the Pregnall Shipyard, and was a noted builder of schooners.  It closed in 1915 but the facility was revived as Charleston Dry Dock & Machine Company and was primarily a repair yard until the 1930s, when it began building tugs and other small ships, and changed its name to Charleston Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company.  The company closed again after WWII.  The yard was on Concord Street, between Laurens and Calhoun, where the Charleston Maritime Center is now.  If anyone can add to the table below, please send your info to me at timcolton@aol.com
