U.S. Army Ocean Tugs (LT, ST) Built During WWII

Most recent update: March 26, 2014.

A total of 718 ocean tugs were built for the U.S. Army during WWII, by 46 shipbuilders and boatbuilders.  Built in both steel and wood, they were designated as either large tugs (LTs) or small tugs (STs).  Some of the gaps in the table below represent older tugs drafted into service for WWII.  Some STs were later reclassified as river tugs (RTs) and others were transferred to the Defense Plant Corporation (DPC), which was the federal agency responsible for building defense facilities.  See the post-war record of construction here.  This table is far from complete: if anyone can fill any of the gaps, please e-mail me at timcolton@aol.com
